The submission process in four short steps

Familiarise yourself with our submission guidelines and frequently asked questions below. Format your manuscript accordingly. Make sure your submission relates to the notion of responsibility.

Submit

Submit your manuscript to responsibilitycollective@gmail.com along with a submission form. If we think it fits our scope, the manuscript will be anonymously peer reviewed by one of our peer reviewers.

Revise

If your manuscript passes review, you will likely be expected to revise it before publication. The editorial team will help you through this process.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for excellent student essays, dissertation excerpts, short commentaries and analytical pieces for our Special Issues. We welcome submissions from all disciplines on how contemporary social, economic, political, environmental, humanitarian, security etc. issues relate to the notion of responsibility. Possible topics include: mass atrocity prevention, humanitarian intervention, international criminal justice, peacekeeping & peacebuilding practices, climate change, gender issues. This is not an exhaustive list. Please get in touch if you are unsure whether your work meets our admissibility criteria.

All submissions should adhere to the author guidelines outlined below and be submitted to responsibilitycollective@gmail.com along with a completed submission form.

Author guidelines

Word count: 3,000-5,000 words (footnotes and bibliography not included). Shorter pieces may be considered for the Blog.

Referencing: Please use the Harvard referencing style and include a full bibliographic reference list for each source quoted.

Plagiarism: If your manuscript was written as part of an assessment item for a course, we advise you submit it to the Responsibility Collective after it has been marked so that you do not plagiarise yourself.

Language: Submissions must be in English. English or American spelling is acceptable but must be consistent. Please edit your manuscript before submitting. Submissions must not be under consideration with other publishers, and must not be already published elsewhere.

Formatting: Please use subheadings to structure your manuscript. You must also include a suggested title with your submission. Please remove any images (unless they are your own original work) before submission. Detailed formatting is done later in the editing process, once a submission is accepted.

Who can submit?

Any student or young professional can submit their work to the Responsibility Collective. We welcome submissions from all over the world and from any discipline in English (translated pieces are acceptable).

When can I submit?

We aim to publish one Special Issue a year and accept submissions on a rolling basis. Look out for our call for papers for our upcoming issues on our website, Facebook and Twitter.

How do I submit?

If you want to submit your work to the Responsibility Collective for a Special Issue, download this submission form, fill it in and send it to responsibilitycollective@gmail.com along with your manuscript. Please make sure you have followed the author guidelines above.

What about copyrights?

We believe in open access and free flow of information. Our Special Issues are a cost-free resource and free for anyone to share or cite as long as you give appropriate credit in accordance with Creative Commons licensing.
